Ranieri Gives Roma A Gift – Italian ‘Serie A’ Football FanCast 143

The Italian Football FanCast is the podcast for fans of Serie A and Calcio.

On this edition of the Italian Football FanCast, Dov Schiavone, along with Ogo Sylla and Udinese correspondent Enzo Misuraca, plus Inter fan Wassim Shatila.

The issues tackled this week include a look at Roma’s amazing win over Inter at the Stadio Olimpico which saw Fabio Borini bag a brace and a magnificent performance from the Giallorossi midfield.

We also cast our eye over AC Milan’s poor showing against Napoli and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, whose assault on Salvatore Aronica may have cost his side three points.

Meanwhile, Juventus had the chance to extend their lead at the top of Serie A, but stumbled to a home draw with Siena, in which there was a controversial penalty decision.

Udinese were also in action and found themselves on the wrong end of a 3-2 defeat as Fiorentina turned on the style. Nevertheless, Antonio Di Natale got on the scoresheet with another stunning goal.

Another player who managed a special strike was Rodrigo Palacio, whose backheel flick for Genoa against Lazio was one of the best this season.

All this and a whole lot more will be answered in this weeks show, plus we ask whether or not Italian football will look to improve their stadia following a week of postponements because of the cold weather?

The Good, The Bad And The Giallorossi – Italian ‘Serie A’ Football FanCast 141

The Italian Football FanCast is the podcast for fans of Serie A and Calcio.

On this edition of the Italian Football FanCast, Dov Schiavone, along with deputy editor Sam Lewis, writer for SerieAWeekly.com Ryan Ross and Udinese correspondent Enzo Misuraca.

The issues tackled this week include, Juventus fantastic form and reasons why Antonio Conte has taken his team to the winter championship.

We also cast our eye over Inter after another win, this time over Lazio, which seen them leapfrog the Biancocelesti in fourth place. Though it wasn’t the prettiest performance, Claudio Ranieri’s men continue their march up Serie A.

However, with praise being heaped onto the shoulders of the Nerazzurri, there is nothing but doom and gloom for all those Roma fans out there. A thrilling 5-1 win over Cesena at the weekend, then a crushing defeat to Juventus in the Coppa Italia.

Meanwhile, Palermo also put in a five-star performance against opponents Genoa, but was it talisman Fabrizio Miccoli or the Grifone’s lack of defensive nous that was the deciding factor?

All this and a whole lot more will be answered in this weeks show, plus we ask whether or not Francesco Totti should return to the Azzurri set-up for Euro 2012.

For those of you who entered our amazing competition where you could have won a classic AC Milan or Inter jersey courtesy of the lovely folks at ingeniostore.co.uk, the winner will be announced on this week’s show.

Italian Serie A Football FanCast

By The Power Of Javier – Italian ‘Serie A’ Football FanCast 140

The Italian Football FanCast is the podcast for fans of Serie A and Calcio.

On this edition of the Italian Football FanCast, Dov Schiavone, along with deputy editor Sam Lewis and writer for SerieAWeekly.com Ryan Ross.

The issues tackled this week include, Juventus’ draw at home to Cagliari and the realisation that Leonardo Bonucci might not be the defender everyone hoped he would be.

We also gaze lovingly at Inter’s Javier Zanetti after he led his team to a superb victory over AC Milan in the Derby della Madonnina. The 38-year-old’s stunning performance ensured that Diego Milito’s second half strike was enough to give the Nerazzurri a deserved win.

However, with praise being heaped onto the shoulders of Claudio Ranieri’s men, questions need to be asked about a number of those wearing the Red and Black.

Meanwhile, Udinese suffered a shock defeat to Genoa and we look at the impact some of the new signings are having at the Marassi.

Finally we cast our eye over the plight of Fiorentina and Palermo, who are both slowly sinking to the depths of Serie A.

All this and a whole lot more will be answered in this weeks show, plus we speculate as to some of the upcoming January transfers from around the peninsula.

Listen out for our amazing competition where you can win a classic AC Milan or Inter jersey courtesy of the lovely folks at ingeniostore.co.uk, but you will have to listen to find out the question.

Seek and Destro-y – Italian ‘Serie A’ Football FanCast 139

The Italian Football FanCast is the podcast for fans of Serie A and Calcio.

On this edition of the Italian Football FanCast, Dov Schiavone, along with deputy editor Sam Lewis and Udinese correspondent Enzo Misuraca.

The issues tackled this week include, Inter’s amazing 5-0 win over Parma. Could this be the result that turns their season around? How much credit does Claudio Ranieri have to take and can they even make a charge for the Scudetto?

We also debate the return of The Don as Roberto Donadoni returns to management with the Gialloblu.

AC Milan travelled to Atalanta and came away with all three points thanks to another magnificent performance from Zlatan Ibrahimovic, a man they are becoming increasingly reliant on.

Meanwhile, Juventus also kept up their unbeaten run with a victory at Lecce with Alessandro Matri scoring the only goal. But just how good is he?

Finally we look at Roma’s win over Chievo and as if Luis Enrique has made some progress following the winter break.

All this and a whole lot more will be answered in this weeks show, plus we discuss Alberto Gilardino’s move to Genoa and the reasons behind it.

Vorsprung Durch Diamanti – Italian ‘Serie A’ Football FanCast 137

The Italian Football FanCast is the podcast for fans of Serie A and Calcio.

On this edition of the Italian Football FanCast, Dov Schiavone, along with Rory Hanna, AC Milan correspondent Rajath Kumar and making his podcast debut Jay Scardina.

The issues tackled this week include, Udinese’s assault on the Scudetto after another win which took them top for a short while and the reasons behind their magnificent from in Serie A

We also debate AC Milan’s draw with Bologna and the potential defensive issues that are beginning to hound the Rossoneri.

Juventus travelled to Roma for the big clash of the weekend and with Luis Enrique’s makeshift side earning a credible draw with the league leaders, has the Spaniard earned a reprieve for the time being?

Meanwhile, Inter managed a victory at the San Siro against Fiorentina and with Giampaolo Pazzini grabbing only his second goal of the season, is talk of a revival premature?

Finally we look at Palermo’s unexpected loss at home to Cesena and ask if there are now mounting problems for a side that never lose at home?

All this and a whole lot more will be answered in this weeks show, plus we discuss Diego Milito’s coronation at the 2011 Bidone d’Oro winner.

Give the Gift of Italian Culture

When my colleagues in the href="http://www.italofile.com/category/featured-articles/italy-blogging-roundtable/">Italy Blogging Roundtable and I decided to write on the topic “gifts” for our December post, I knew exactly what I wanted to write about. I knew straight away that I didn’t want to write about Italian gifts you can buy in a store, though there are many I desire or would recommend. Similarly, I knew that I didn’t want to write about the intangible gift that Italy has given me. No, I wanted to write about so-called “gifts that keep on giving,” presents that will serve to enhance others’ understanding or appreciation of Italian culture.

The two “gifts” that I am highlighting below are 1) a documentary film project about a very famous town in Tuscany and 2) a charity devoted to restoring a town in Cinque Terre. I would love it if you, my readers, would consider contributing to one or both of these very worthy causes. To do so, you will be giving yourself and all others who appreciate Italy’s history and heritage the chance to enjoy it for years to come.

Sarah Marder, a long-time resident of Cortona, Italy, has been working for two years on a documentary about the Tuscan town made famous by Frances Mayes’ book href="ttp://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0767900383/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=italofile-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0767900383">Under the Tuscan Sun. The book and its subsequent film starring Diane Lane were a rousing success, but the publicity has had a detrimental effect on Cortona, drawing in more tourists than the village can handle. Ironically, the medieval town that so many tourists are coming to experience is rapidly giving way to new constructions, destroying Cortona’s look and atmosphere. href="http://www.indiegogo.com/genius">The Genius of a Place takes an honest look at Ms. Marder’s beloved Cortona and its destruction at the hands of too much tourism.

href="http://www.indiegogo.com/genius">The Genius of a Place project is listed on the crowdfunding site Indiegogo, and it seeks to raise ,000 by December 31, 2011. As of this post, they are almost half-way to their goal. Donating to href="http://www.indiegogo.com/genius">The Genius of a Place will help Sarah and her crew enter their documentary into the Sundance Film Festival in January and could net you “grazie gifts” ranging from chocolate to a set of Tuscan watercolor paintings, not to mention the knowledge of having assisted in raising awareness about Cortona’s plight.

Take a look at the project video for The Genius of a Place to see if it’s something you’d like to donate to:

You may or may not be aware that the region of Liguria, which includes the capital Genoa and the famous tourist area of Cinque Terre, suffered record flooding this past fall. On October 25, 2011, heavy rain buried city centers under feet of water and caused massive mudslides. The flooding led to emergency evacuations, and many residents have yet to return to the once-picturesque area to begin the process of rebuilding and restoration.

Hit particularly hard during the flooding was the town of Vernazza, one of those perfect, pastel villages that the Cinque Terre subregion is famous for. Vernazza, which was buried under more than 13 feet of mud, suffered more than 100 million in damages. In order to get Vernazza back to working order, three American expat women living in Vernazza created href="http://savevernazza.com">Save Vernazza, an Italian nonprofit to raise funds for construction projects and cultural preservation. Included in the mission statement of href="http://savevernazza.com">Save Vernazza is the commitment to rebuild the Muri a Secco, the terracing walls that are part of the heritage that merited Vernazza its UNESCO World Heritage Site status.

If you’re interested in joining Ruth Manfredi, Michele Lilley, and Michele Sherman, the three women behind Save Vernazza, in preserving this iconic village, visit the href="http://savevernazza.com">Save Vernazza website to learn about its projects and how to donate. What Does The Christmas Eve Feast of Seven Fishes Cost for an Italian Family?

December 10, 2011

The Feast of the Seven Fishes is the typical Christmas Eve meal served on family tables throughout Italy. It is no secret that times are tough in Italy these days. Having just returned from Italy several weeks ago, I can tell you that the word I kept hearing again and again was “crisis.” So how will this affect how Italians celebrate Christmas?

According to this fascinating article Italians Pass on Prosecco, Italians are cutting on spending wherever they can. “People are eating less pasta than a year ago,” a supermarket manager told Bloomberg News. “They don’t buy pasta topping. They put off buying mayonnaise.” Will the cost of seven fishes be too much for the typical Italian be too much this year? Here’s how Bloomberg breaks down the meal for a family of eight:
